While searching for salt deposits, a sulphur spring was discovered at a depth of 378 metres in 1878. In 1931, Goisern was awarded the title of Bad Goisern. Since then, Bad Goisern has been known for its highly effective sulphur spring, the healing powers of which are still utilised today at the Vivea Hotel.
